The MotoGP Hungarian Grand Prix witnessed a thrilling qualifying session, with Marc Marquez claiming a sensational pole position. The reigning world champion outgunned pre-qualifying favourite Pedro Acosta, showcasing his prowess on the Balaton Park Circuit. This victory marks Marquez's pole of the season, following his success at the Spanish Grand Prix at Jerez.
Acosta, who led the majority of Q2 aboard the factory KTM, initially set a 1m37.419s lap time. However, Marquez, with two rapid laps towards the end of the session, managed to snatch the top spot with a time of 1m36.791s. Acosta, in response, could only manage a time of 1m36.838s, securing second place. This result highlights Marquez's ability to maintain his perfect qualifying record at the circuit.
The front row was completed by Gresini's Fermin Aldeguer, who continued his fine form at Balaton Park, and Marco Bezzecchi, Aprilia's top runner in sixth. The race also saw a strong showing from Ducati, with four riders inside the top five, including Fabio di Giannantonio in fourth and Francesco Bagnaia in fifth.
However, the race also had its share of setbacks. Ducati suffered an early blow in Q2 when both Marquez and Fabio di Giannantonio went down at Turn 1 within seconds of each other. Despite the incident, Marquez quickly recovered and moved up to second place.
The top 12 was completed by LCR rookie Diogo Moreira and Pramac's Jack Miller. Joan Mir, who set the early pace in qualifying, was knocked out of provisional Q2 spots by team-mate Marini, leaving him 13th on the grid. The race also saw the return of Iker Lecuona, who put his Gresini Ducati 16th on the grid.
