Nio's Battery Revolution: A New Daily Swap Record During the Chinese New Year Rush
Nio, the innovative electric vehicle company, has once again made headlines with its impressive battery swap capabilities. On February 15, 2026, Nio achieved an extraordinary milestone, completing a record-breaking 146,649 battery swaps in a single day, right at the start of the Chinese New Year travel rush.
This achievement is even more remarkable when considering that just days prior, on February 6, Nio celebrated its 100 millionth battery swap. With an extensive network of charging and battery swap stations across China, Nio has revolutionized the way electric vehicles are powered and maintained.
Nio's infrastructure is truly impressive. They have established over 8,600 charging and battery swap stations nationwide, with a dedicated focus on battery swaps, boasting over 3,700 specialized swap stations. This network covers major highways, connecting 550 cities and providing seamless travel options for electric vehicle owners.
But here's where it gets controversial... The Ministry of Transport's "Spring Festival Highway Network Operation Analysis Report" predicts a significant increase in traffic during this year's Chinese New Year celebrations. The report forecasts an average daily volume of 55 million vehicles on national highways, a 4.5% jump from 2025, with the peak day expected to reach a staggering 71 million vehicles - almost double the usual daily traffic.
And this is the part most people miss... The report also highlights the growing presence of New Energy Vehicles (NEVs) on Chinese roads. NEVs are projected to account for approximately 22% of total traffic during the holiday period, with an average of 12 million NEVs on the road each day. On the peak day, NEV traffic could surge to an incredible 15.3 million vehicles.
With these projections, Nio's recent battery swap record might not stand for long. As more travelers hit the road, Nio's innovative energy replenishment network will be put to the ultimate test during China's busiest travel period. Can they handle the demand? Only time will tell.
